Prerequisite Testing – Individual Courses

Prerequisite Testing

A student returning for additional training after an absence of more than one year may be required to take prerequisite testing to determine skill level. The Institute does not give credit for previous courses completed at other institutions.

Students attempting to use verifiable work experience in lieu of prerequisite testing must submit 2 references from individuals who are currently employed where the work experience is being referenced. The references must be able to articulate the student’s day-to-day duties and types of welding performed on the job.

Reference contact information must be sent to the Institute at least 2 weeks prior to the start of class.

Students enrolling in individual courses also have the option of utilizing welder qualification and welder certification records. Students attempting to utilize these records must send copies to the Institute at least 2 weeks before the start of their scheduled course. The records will be reviewed to ensure they meet or exceed the prerequisite testing criteria for the desired course.

Only one attempt to pass a prerequisite test will be allowed. Prerequisite testing is scheduled during the week before the start date and must be completed prior to the start date.

Note: Any student failing a course is not permitted to do prerequisite testing in lieu of retaking the course.
