Admission Requirements & the Application Process for International Students
HIWT will provide I-20 forms (needed for applying for a student Visa) for international students who provide the proper documentation, as described below, and who are registered for one of our two programs, either the Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program or the Structural Welding Program.
International Students Who are Registered for the Combination Structural & Pipe Welding Program or the Structural Welding Program
A completed Skill Registration form along with the U.S. $100.00 registration fee will need to be submitted to HIWT. Registration forms can be found on our website at Get Started – Enroll. In addition, international program students will be required to provide a properly notarized Financial Certification form for the amount needed to cover their tuition, travel, and living expenses while in attendance at the Institute. The amount needed for the programs can be found in our Cost of Attendance Budget document, plus additional costs for international travel, as appropriate. If a sponsor will be providing funding for your education, they will need to complete a notarized Affidavit of Sponsorship. In addition, you will need to provide the appropriate financial documentation showing your or your sponsor’s ability to finance your education, travel and living expenses. This financial documentation can be in the form of a copy of several recent pay stubs from your employer, a payroll history or a letter from your employer or your sponsor’s employer stating the salary and years of employment. This letter should also be notarized. HIWT requires the original Financial Certification and Affidavit of Sponsorship and supporting documentation. Faxed forms are not acceptable. In addition, you must send us a copy of your passport or national identification card and a copy of your high school diploma and a translated (in English) copy of your high school transcripts.
The registration form, $100 registration fee, all financial documentation (as explained above), a copy of your passport or national identification card, and the copy of your high school diploma and transcripts must be sent together. After receiving all required information and if it is complete and valid, the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology will issue an I-20 form and mail it to you. You will take this form with you when you apply for your student visa. If you wish for us to courier the documentation to you instead of using regular mail, please contact us a email@example.com to request the amount of the courier fee. Fees are dependent upon delivery location and must be received prior to the package being sent.
NOTE: The entire amount of tuition and fees for your training must be paid prior to your first day of class.
These amounts can be found on the website or you can contact us using our online contact form. All payments must be made in US dollars drawn on a US bank. If payments are drawn against an International bank, there will be an additional $50 fee charged to the student for processing. If payment is not made prior to your first day, you will not be allowed to attend classes, you will be cancelled from the program and you will be cancelled in SEVIS (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Student and Exchange Visitors Information System).
HIWT participates in the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program, which consists of loans and grants designed to help with the cost of attendance for qualifying students. You must be a United States citizen or an eligible non-citizen (with an 8 or 9 digit Alien Registration Number) to qualify for this loan program. Or, if you have someone in the U.S. that would be willing to co-sign for an Alternative Loan, this may be an option for funding your education. Alternative loans are available through many financial institutions. You would need to research and contact these institutions to apply for these loans.
For Hobart Institute scholarships, you must be a high school graduate within the last 7 years and be an enrolled student at HIWT to qualify. The Peter C. Hobart Scholarship is a $1000 scholarship that has been designated for International Students through The Troy Foundation. Please check our website under Get Started – Financial Aid – Student Financial Aid Opportunities – Scholarships, for the Troy Foundation Scholarship application.
