The objective of this course is to develop a practical understanding of welding with regard to welding processes, and auxiliary welding equipment for the welder. Also, to develop a technical understanding of the information contained on engineering drawings and the use of the information to communicate setup and welding instructions from the designer to the welder and fitter.

Welders need to develop a technical understanding of information contained on engineering drawings and the use of nformation to communicate set-up and welding instructions from the designer to the welder and fitter.

Course content:

  • Safety
  • Symbols for welding according to AWS A2.4
  • Terms and definitions • Mathematics for welding
  • Welding defects and discontinuities
  • Engineering drawings, bill of materials, set-up tools
  • Welding processes
  • Fabrication of a weldment from a print
