Magnetic particle and liquid penetrant are the most widely used processes for nondestructive testing. This course provides the student with training in theory and hands-on laboratory projects.
You will spend approximately one third of the course time in the laboratory.
The course will conclude with a written exam.
Successful completion of this exam will prepare the student for Level II SNT-TC-IA and MIL-STD-410 in Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Testing.
- Introduction.
- Introduction to liquid penetrant and testing philosophy.
- Liquid penetrant testing principles with description of procedures, applications and capabilities.
- Equipment and materials
- Testing techniques and selection of materials and processes.
- Interpretation of test results, indications and their characteristics.
- Quality control of penetrant materialsIntroduction to magnetic particle and testing philosophy.
- Magnetic particle test equipment and operation.
- Mediums and their preparation Magnetic particle application.
- Classification of discontinuities. Laboratory demonstration and hands-on operation of equipment with particle projects.
- Comparison and selection of NDT processes.
- Comparison and selection of NDT processes from the five nondestructive testing methods.
- Demonstrations and practical laboratory projects.
- Principles of magnetic particle testing, theory, magnetic fields, current requirements and demagnetization.
