DOUG LONGENECKER
ESTABLISHES
ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
FUND
The Hobart Institute
of Welding Technology (HIWT) enthusiastically
announces that a June 1992 graduate of HIWT has
provided a $10,000 grant to establish an Alumni
Scholarship Fund. Doug Longenecker of New Hudson,
Michigan, who serves on the Program Advisory
Committee of the Institute, presented the check to
Vice President Ron Scott in May during the year-long
75th Anniversary celebration.
Doug completed his
welding engineering degree at The Ohio State
University in December 1999 following his training
at HIWT. He was then employed by Edison Welding
Institute and is currently the president of
DPLongenecker L.L.C.
“DPLongenecker LLC
has been in business for the past 4 years providing
welding consulting help to a number of different
disciplines. We do work for companies ranging from
government applications to automotive. We provide
help in robotic arc welding as well in hands on
skills.”
“I feel honored and
privileged to be able to provide support to the
Hobart Institute. I feel this is truly where I got
my start. During my time at Hobart, Ron Scott
helped advise of possible career paths and was
instrumental in my decision to go to The Ohio State
University. Throughout the last 4 years I still
find myself calling on Ron for either advice or help
with training needs. HIWT has provided me with the
foundation to create and maintain my company.”
“The welding
industry is in need of skilled welders to fill new
positions and replace workers who are retiring.
These scholarships will provide financial assistance
to young men and women who may not otherwise be able
to afford welding training,” says Ron Scott. “By
completing skill training, these people become
excellent contributors to the workforce with the
ability to earn above average salaries.”
“The Hobart
Institute is indeed grateful for Doug’s
contribution,” expresses André Odermatt, President
of HIWT. “We encourage other successful alumni to
step up to the plate and make a donation to the
Alumni Scholarship Fund.”
You are invited to
contribute any dollar amount to this Alumni
Scholarship Fund or other scholarship funds at the
Hobart Institute. Your donations to this 501(c)3
nonprofit organization are tax-deductible. This
scholarship will be awarded annually in addition to
four others previously established in the names of
Howard Cary, Raymond Dunlavy, Robert Bercaw, and
David Via.
Applications for
this scholarship that is due by April 1 of each
year, may be obtained through The Troy Foundation,
910 West Main Street, Troy, Ohio 45373 U.S.A.
An independent selection committee of The Troy
Foundation will review applications and make the
awards in May based on the Institute’s professional
recommendations. Students may use the scholarships
only toward tuition for any program of welding
training at the Hobart Institute. Unused portions
of any scholarship will be returned to the fund
within the Troy Foundation for use by future
scholarship winners.
