SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO DUSTIN SCHMETT OF HUNTINGBURG
Hobart Institute
awarded the 2007 Raymond C. Dunlavy Scholarship to
Dustin Schmett of Huntingburg, Indiana.
Dustin is a
graduate of Southridge High School and completed the
two-year welding program at Pike Central High School
through the Patoka Valley Career and Technical
Education Cooperative
In his
recommendation of Dustin for this award, Glenn Weil,
Coordinator of Career and Technical Education
Services at Patoka Valley Career and Technical
Education Cooperative, cites an outstanding work
ethic, a sincere interest in learning about welding
processes, a good attendance record and a
cooperative attitude as just a few of the attributes
that Dustin possesses.
“Dustin worked very
hard during his two years in our fine welding
program and earned the respect of our welding
teacher, Kevin Carter, and all other school
administrators.
His attitude, interest, and work ethic have
always been outstanding,” says Glenn.
“Dustin is
hard working, honest, and sincere,” comments Brian
Uebelhor, Guidance Counselor at Southridge High
School.
“I am very sure that Dustin will be a strong member
of this program of study.
I feel he will be successful in his
endeavors.”
Dustin’s farming
background has provided him with a strong work
ethic.
He is treasurer of the Pork Producers, a Dubois
County 4-H Council member, and was a 4-year FFA
member.
He represented the State of Indiana at the national
SkillsUSA welding contest in the post-secondary
division where he placed 12th.
Dustin is the son of
Michael and Linda Schmett.
He is employed by M & L Farms and is
currently enrolled in the
Combination
Structural and Pipe Welding Program at Hobart
Institute.
“This opportunity
will allow me to be successful in whatever comes my
way in my career through the skills that I will
learn,” says Dustin.
“While I know that there will be many
challenges that I face, I am ready to meet them head
on!”
The Raymond C.
Dunlavy Scholarship is awarded each year by the
Hobart Institute of Welding Technology
in memory of Raymond C. Dunlavy.
Ray was Chief Instructor for many years and
also served as Superintendent of Hobart Institute.
