HOBART INSTITUTE NAMES
TWO NEW INSTRUCTORS
RUSS SHURTZ
March 7, 2007 – Troy, OH -- Russ Shurtz
is teaching courses in the Technical Training
Department at Hobart Institute. Originally from
Mohave Valley, Arizona, Russ is a graduate of
Arizona State University and the Hobart Institute of
Welding Technology. He has five years of experience
in welding and inspection of cryogenic tanks and
boiler pressure vessels and tubes. Russ has worked
in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and utility
industries and has much to offer to the participants
in the technical training classes.
Russ also served in the U.S.
Army as a Specialist and recently relocated to Troy,
Ohio with his wife, Melinda and their five-year-old
daughter and seven-month-old son.
Richard Smith
Military welding experience aboard the
USS Thomas S. Gates – CG51 as a hull maintenance
technician and 2nd Class Petty Officer in
the U.S. Navy along with completing the
Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program
at Hobart Institute provided Richard Smith
the background to become a welding instructor.
Originally from Chillicothe, Ohio, Richard relocated
to Troy with his wife, Alaina, and their
three-year-old daughter, to accept a welding
instructor position with the Hobart Institute in
January. He will be providing skill welding
training to students.
