Winter 2007-2008 World of Welding

ACCEPTING NEW CHALLENGES

BOB FISHER

With safety of students as a top priority at Hobart Institute, Bob Fisher has been named Campus Security Officer and will work to enforce policies and maintain security of the facility.

Along with these duties, Bob will also teach certain skill courses and will travel to Edison Welding Institute to maintain skill training in conjunction with The Ohio State University engineering program

“The diversity that Bob brings to the Institute is very helpful to students who are considering a welding career beginning with training at Hobart Institute,” says Ron Scott, Vice President.

Bob joined the Hobart Institute staff in January 2002 as an instructor and moved into the position of Admissions Representative in 2006.  Prior to that, he was with Hobart Brothers Company for 23 years, working in the quality assurance department as quality coordinator, in the research and development department as a welding technician, and in the equipment division as a welder.

A graduate of Bradford High School, Bob attended the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School and was a district SkillsUSA VICA winner in welding. He is qualified to teach all of the welding processes at Hobart Institute.  Bob and Robin, his wife, have two sons and a daughter and reside in Miami County, Ohio

JANET PIECHOCKI

Janet Piechocki joined the Hobart Institute team in August as Admissions Representative.  Janet is offering guided tours to prospective students and school groups.  She is also available to speak about welding careers and opportunities to students in vocational and high school classes in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

Janet has previously taken courses at Hobart Institute and brings with her a broad skill set and over 13 years experience in the welding industry which will benefit incoming students.  She is currently completing her associate degree in welding technology and technical writing at Edison Community College

“I am looking forward to working with welding instructors in promoting welding education and increasing the enrollment at Hobart Institute,” says Janet.  “I will also be assisting students to locate welding positions in the workplace as they complete their training at Hobart Institute.”

“We feel very strongly that Janet can strengthen the Hobart Institute capabilities and won’t miss a beat in continuing our tradition of excellence,” says Andre Odermatt, President.

Aside from work, Janet enjoys working with computers, writing, and facilitating evening psychology sessions a few times a year at Edison Community College.  She has a 25-year-old son and resides in Urbana, Ohio.

Vocational and high school welding instructors may contact Janet.Piechocki@welding.org or call 1-800-332-9448, ext. 5051 to arrange a visit.
