HOBART CERTIFICATE LENDS CREDIBILITY
A
week in August at Hobart Institute that focused on specialized training
provided the desired certificate for DC1 Jim Pals, welding instructor for the
U.S. Coast Guard Academy Mechanical Engineering Dept in New London, Connecticut. Even though he has been a life-long welder,
learning the techniques at an early age from his father, Jim knew that having a
Hobart Institute certificate hanging on the wall would lend additional
credibility to his work.
Originally
from Mansfield, Massachusetts, Jim spent ten years in the
U.S. Navy before transferring to the
Coast Guard in 2001. He has been teaching welding to mechanical
engineering students at the USCG
Academy for two
years. Using Hobart Institute training
materials, Jim teaches Welding Symbols, Blueprint Reading and Plasma Cutting
along with Shielded Metal Arc, Gas Metal Arc, and Gas Tungsten Arc
Welding.
When
not teaching at the academy, Jim works with Seconn Fabrication, a leading sheet
metal fabricator in the northeast.
Sharing his expertise with Seconn is a benefit to this employer, as well
as allowing Jim to keep his own skills sharp.
“Seconn
is the cream of the crop for sheet metal fabrication,” says Jim.
Robert
J. Marelli, Jr., Seconn’s Founder and President, states, “Seconn was founded on the premise that
service, creativity and capability will be rewarded with customer loyalty
regardless of the industry in which the customer conducts its business.”

Jim also enjoys racing road bicycles and spending
quality time with his six-year-old daughter.
