NEW scholarships established for
students to attend the hobart institute
During this past 75th
anniversary year, a goal established by President
Andre Odermatt has been met with great support… the ambition
to establish new scholarships to benefit students who wish to
attend the Hobart Institute.
“Through the
generosity of those mentioned below, my dream has become a
reality,” says Andre. “We continue to welcome donations to any
of these funds. Additional donor-designated funds may also be
established. Your donations are tax-deductible.”
Peter C. Hobart Establishes Two Unique Scholarships
International
entrepreneur and board member of the Hobart Institute of Welding
Technology, Peter Cahill Hobart has established two scholarships
in the amount of one thousand dollars each for selected students
to further their education in welding at the Hobart Institute of
Welding Technology.
A major
collector of welded metal sculpture, the truly American art
form, and a long-time advocate of combining the science and
technology of welding with art and creativity, Mr. Hobart has
designated one of these grants “The David Smith Award”, for a
promising artist and welded metal sculptor.
In keeping
with his life and international interests and the institute‘s
worldwide reputation, Peter C. Hobart has provided a second
scholarship, “The Peter C. Hobart Weldworld Award” for deserving
international students from outside the continental USA… a
student who is dedicated to the basic industry of welding in his
country.
Applications
for these scholarships that are due by April 1 of each year, may
be obtained through The Troy Foundation, 910 West Main Street,
Troy, Ohio 45373 U.S.A. Applications will also be available at

any scholarship will be returned to the fund within the Troy
Foundation for use by future scholarship winners.

furthering their commitment.”

ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A June 1992 graduate of HIWT has donated
funds to establish the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Doug
Longenecker, President of DP Longenecker L.L.C. of Michigan, and
graduate of The Ohio State University in welding engineering,
serves on the Program Advisory Committee of the Institute.
“I feel honored
and privileged to be able to provide support to the Hobart
Institute. I feel this is truly where I got my start. During
my time at Hobart, Ron Scott helped advise of possible career
paths and was instrumental in my decision to go to The Ohio
State University. Throughout the last 4 years I still find
myself calling on Ron for either advice or help with training
needs. HIWT has provided me with the foundation to create and
maintain my company.”
Anyone may apply
for this $300 scholarship. Applications are due by April 1 of

“The welding industry is in need of skilled
welders to fill new positions and replace workers who are
retiring. These scholarships will provide financial assistance
to young men and women who may not otherwise be able to afford
welding training,” says Ron Scott, Vice President and General
Manager. “By completing skill training, these people become
excellent contributors to the workforce with the ability to earn
above average salaries.”
