Reduce Welding Costs- Increase Profitability:
The American Welding Society’s
Certified Welding Supervisor Program
The
American
Welding Society’s (AWS)
Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) Program provides
engineers, managers, designers, and others the opportunity to
reduce welding costs and increase profitability for their
employers. This innovative program identifies a body of
knowledge all welding supervisors should know and understand to
increase productivity and improve weld quality.
“The Certified
Welding Supervisor program was created to maximize the
supervisor’s ability to increase weld quality and lower costs,”
says Jeff Hufsey, AWS deputy executive director. “This report
shows that decreased productivity can be traced to poorly
trained welding supervisors, and too little interaction with
their welders.”
The CWS
program is a result of a study conducted by AWS and the
National Shipbuilding Research
Program (NSRP) that found training welding supervisors
reduced weld metal volume, reduced arc time per weldment,
reduced rework and scrap, and reduced work effort and motion and
delay time. Visit

for more information or to download the NSRP study.
The American Welding Society
is the largest organization in the world dedicated to advancing
the science, technology, and application of welding and allied
processes, including joining, brazing, soldering, cutting, and
thermal spraying. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, USA, AWS
serves almost 50,000 members throughout the world. For more

Society’s Web site,
