MANPOWER WORKS WITH HIWT
TO PLACE GRADS

Assisting
students to obtain just the right job following completion of
training at Hobart Institute is one of the challenges that
Admissions Representative
Terry Brown willingly accepts, while encouraging students to
focus on being prepared to enter the work force.
“Some companies
choose to recruit their welders by scheduling a career day at
the Hobart Institute for the purpose of presentations and
interviews and there are a number of steps that students need to
follow,” explains Terry. “However, if a student completes
training and does not have an immediate job, I refer them to
Manpower, a world leader in the staffing industry. The experts
at Manpower place clients worldwide in both permanent and
temporary positions. Many companies turn to them for
prescreening of applicants.”
As a student nears completion,
they are encouraged to:
-
Prepare a resume. If the student chooses, assistance to do
this is also available at the Hobart Institute.
-
Define a geographic area in which to begin their search.
Some students prefer to return to their hometown, while
others are open to offers worldwide, which quickly expands
their options.
-
Identify the target industry segment where they would
ideally like to work.
-
Conduct an Internet job search. This search can begin on
the Job Bank located on Hobart Institute’s web site at
http://www.welding.org where companies post current
openings for welders. Computers are available at the Hobart
Institute and also at the local public library if students
do not have access to their own computer. This helps the
student to learn the wages in the various parts of the
country and to know what companies are hiring and what jobs
might be available to them.
-
Identify and contact a few selected employers by mailing or
faxing their resume.
-
Follow up with the companies by e-mail or telephone.
-
The ultimate responsibility of obtaining a job lies with the
student. Hobart Institute can provide them with the tools
to conduct their search.
During a recent visit to the
Hobart Institute, Mayme Larson, Branch Manager of the Troy
Manpower office met with students and explained the standard
intake and registration process along with assessments and
orientation conducted by Manpower. Mayme indicated, “Manpower
has over 1,100 locations in North America, along with 4,300
offices in 66 countries, so there is generally an office located
near your hometown.”
Manpower may
also be found on the Internet at
