Tilt Trailer Constructed
In the
article "Lifelong Dream Becomes
Reality",
you read about David Butkus who designed and built this
useful, tilt trailer for his senior project at school.
“Actually,”
explains David, “I built it and then drew up the
blueprints!”
The trailer
is constructed by gas metal arc welding mild carbon steel.
The final product was then thermal sprayed with a
zinc coating for durability.
“The
biggest challenge was making sure the axle was square with
the trailer and obtaining the correct balance for the
tilt,” says David.
His father,
Francis Butkus, guided him along the way.
Francis was a Hobart Institute graduate nearly 50
years ago and was employed for 24 years at Berks
Career and Technology Center before retiring from
teaching and concentrating his efforts full time on the
family business, Welding & Thermal Technology, Inc.
David will be joining him in the family business
following his completion of training at the Hobart
Institute.
