JAMES PROCTOR EARNS SCHOLARSHIP
The Howard B. Cary Scholarship for 2002 has been
awarded to James E. Proctor of Gulliver, Michigan. James is a
graduate of Manistique High School and
Central Michigan University
(CMU), where he was on the Dean’s List.
“I was introduced to welding in
high school and it quickly became my favorite class,” says Jim.
“Since high school, I have worked as a production welder and a
fabricator. I have graduated from CMU with a degree in
Industrial Education. Before I start teaching, I would like to
learn more about welding so I can pass along that knowledge,
interest, and curiosity to my students.”
“I have known Jim for the past
five years as both a student and a friend,” comments Edward J.
Marietti, Teacher and Coach at Manistique Area Schools. “Jim
has shown his capabilities as an instructor through his
volunteer work with our sports program, also assisting in the
classroom with his younger peers.”
Another important asset that Jim
possesses is his promptness, according to Bruce Frost of the
Dept. of Industrial and Engineering Technology at CMU. “Jim is
always on time and attends class regularly. He is always
positive and polite in his dealings with faculty and students
alike.”
Donna de la Perrière, Assistant
Professor at CMU, also praises Jim highly, “Simply put, Jim is a
dedicated, energetic young man who is clearly serious about his
vocation and is ready to work hard and effectively in order to
learn and grow – and to help others to do the same. He has a
real ability to motivate his classmates to work to the best of
their own abilities.”
Jim’s foremost goal is to become
the most knowledgeable and best welding he can be.
“After achieving this goal
through Hobart and job experience, I will pass these skills
along to my future welding students,” Jim says.
The Howard B. Cary Scholarship
will assist Jim with his tuition at the Hobart Institute of
Welding Technology. The Hobart Institute presents two other
scholarships each year, The Raymond Dunlavy Scholarship and the
Robert Bercaw Scholarship. For a scholarship application, call
