HIWT NAMES TWO NEW INSTRUCTORS

Russ ShurtZ

Russ is teaching courses in the Technical Training Department at Hobart Institute.  Originally from Mohave Valley, Arizona, Russ is a graduate of Arizona State University and the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology.  He has five years of experience in welding and inspection of cryogenic tanks and boiler pressure vessels and tubes.  Russ has worked in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and utility industries and has much to offer to the participants in the technical training classes.

Russ also served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist and recently relocated to Troy with his wife, Melinda and their five-year-old daughter and seven-month-old son.

Richard Smith

Military welding experience aboard the USS Thomas S. Gates – CG51 as a hull maintenance technician and 2nd Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy along with completing the Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program at Hobart Institute provided Richard Smith the background to become a welding instructor.

Originally from Chillicothe, Ohio, Richard relocated to Troy with his wife, Alaina, and their three-year-old daughter, to accept a welding instructor position with the Hobart Institute in January.  He will be providing skill welding training to students.
