HOBART INSTITUTE HOSTS
AWS DAYTON SECTION STUDENT NIGHT

Troy, OH - March 20, 2007 -- The Dayton Section of the American Welding Society held their Annual Student Night dinner and meeting on March 13, hosted by the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT) in Troy, Ohio.  Over 100 students from various vocational schools as well as from Hobart Institute, welding instructors, parents, and AWS members were in attendance.

Chris Anderson of Motoman, Inc., AWS Section Chairman, served as emcee and focused his comments on the student memberships and scholarships related to the American Welding Society.   Chris then introduced Bob Fisher, who welcomed the audience to Hobart.

Keynote speaker of the evening was Chuck Ford, Technical Instructor at Hobart Institute, who spoke about welder certification and certified welding inspectors, educators, and supervisors and explained the various levels of American Welding Society certifications.

Door prizes for the evening were provided by a variety of vendors to the welding industry.  Grand prizes in the student raffle included: a Hobart Handler 125 EZ, a Lincoln weld package, and a training credit for Motoman’s one week Basic Robot Programming.  Tours of the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology including newly remodeled classrooms, bookstore and library, followed the program.

Chuck Ford, instructor at Hobart Institute, presents Hobart Handler to Sarah Albers, welding student of Todd Smith at Tri-Star Career Compact, Celina, Ohio.
