TYLER TURNS TRASH
INTO TREASURES
It is said that one man’s trash is another
man’s treasures. Hobart Institute graduate Tyler Frank has the
ability to turn the scraps, found in a welding shop, into works
of art… and has a knack of turning the art into cash, as he
sells his creations.
He recently created a model of a
Harley-Davidson®. Using 2-inch pipe for the tires, 6010 fillet
rods for handlebars, a pipe bend for the seat, a liner from a MIG gun for the cables, and cold rolled steel scrap for the gas
tank, along with a set of spark plugs, Tyler assembled the
cycle. Most of us would look at those small pieces of metal as
junk, ready for the trashcan…but not Tyler. He looks at it and
sees potential for creativity!
From another piece of cold rolled steel, he
cut the stylized word Freedom and then painted it in the
red, white, and blue of the American flag. He can create any
word from metal.
Tyler’s talents are not limited to working
with metal. He also enjoys playing guitar, painting,
woodcarving, and other creative works of art.
“The art is simply a hobby… a way to
relax,” says Tyler. “I enjoy welding and will work wherever I
can make the most money!”
Tyler is well
prepared for a career in welding, having recently completed the
full nine-month
Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program
achieving perfect attendance at the Hobart Institute. He calls
Carmel, Indiana, his hometown and is interested in working in
Indiana. His favorite process is TIG welding and he looking
forward to a promising career, supplementing his real work in
welding with his love of art.
