CAREER
IN MOTION
“The
strong base provided by Hobart Institute allowed me to progress
and acquire many jobs,”
says Gary Kish, speaking recently of his career in welding.
In
1983, Gary came to HIWT with some welding training and
experience in shielded metal arc welding that he had acquired
through apprenticeship and journeyman training with a local
union. He was
seeking gas tungsten arc welding training to enable him to pass
qualification tests to work in the nuclear power industry at a
time when welders were needed in that field.
Just four weeks of training, coupled with his current
knowledge, gave Gary the ability to pass qualification tests and
be successful in a variety of employment situations including
nuclear power stations, chemical plants, refineries, and paper
mills in a seven-state region surrounding his Ohio home.
“It
was well worth the out-of-pocket investment,” indicates Gary.
“I’ve
had training in various places, but none met the professionalism
and high standards presented at Hobart.
That training allowed me to pass tests, not only in the
basic carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, but also
welding many of the nickel alloys and other more exotic
metals,” Gary comments. “I
have recommended Hobart training to many people including those
seeking advanced welding training.”
With
a desire for less travel and more family time, Gary’s welding
career met a curve in the road and his work moved away from the
building trades to a position in a local steel mill.
His decision also gave his two adult children the
successful start that they needed in life to become a teacher
and a university student within the Army
ROTC program. Recently
displaced from his job, however, Gary is confident that his
welding skills, which are never lost or forgotten, will again
allow him to apply within a broad range of employment
opportunities.
“Without
a doubt, Hobart Institute put my career in motion!”
says Gary.
