INSPECTION FOR ARMORED VEHICLES
The
first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions armored
vehicles is a vision of military tanks.
But that is just part of the visual picture that Jennifer
Malott “paints” when she describes O’Gara-Hess
& Eisenhardt Armoring Company that has been her employer
for ten years.
Jennifer
began working as a welder after completing high school at Warren
County Career Center. Now
a quality technician, Jennifer conducts visual inspection of
parts and many other duties throughout her workday.
She was recently in Troy for the Preparation
for the AWS-CWI/CWE Welding Inspector/EducatorExamination
course offered by the Hobart Institute.
This training and the American Welding Society
Certification will definitely provide a value-added area of
expertise for Jennifer and a bonus for her company as more and
more welds require qualified inspection.
O’Gara-Hess
was one of the first certification customers of the Hobart
Institute in 1989 when HIWT began certification services and
have remained a loyal customer throughout the years.
Jennifer
says, “The best way to get an idea of what our company does is
to go to their web site at www.ogara-hess.com.
The information there is complete.”
As
explained on the web site, O’Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt has a
lengthy history beginning in 1876 as builders of custom coaches
and horse-drawn ambulances.
Today, the benefits of their technology within the
commercial segment of the business are appreciated by a wide
variety of people from corporate executives to presidents and
heads-of-state. O’Gara-Hess
& Eisenhardt was the first to armor a limousine to protect a
U.S. President when they built a bullet-resistant car for Harry
S. Truman.
A
custom armoring project begins with client consultation to
project a vision of a desired vehicle.
The design team studies the vehicle to be armored.
Some of the more popular choices are Hummers, Suburbans,
Navigators, and Land Cruisers, although they will work on VW
Jettas and an assortment of full size sedans.
Final designs and production timetables are outlined and
approved and production is begun.
Technicians such as Jennifer along with experts in
ballistic science, automotive engineering, armor integration and
personal security form a dedicated team.
Completed vehicles, built to reflect the personal style
and security requirements of their owners, are delivered in four
to six months from contract approval.
Armored
vehicles require special service from specially trained
technicians. O’Gara-Hess
& Eisenhardt provides support and service beyond the point
of sale and ships parts worldwide.
In 2001 they were acquired by Armor Holdings, Inc. and
have facilities in various locations throughout the world.
