AWS ANNOUNCES NEW EDITIONS

AWS D1.2, STRUCTURAL WELDING CODE - ALUMINUM

MIAMI - March 18, 2003 - The American Welding Society (AWS) has published AWS D1.2/D1.2M:2003, Structural Welding Code - Aluminum. This first revised D1.2 code since 1997 has been restructured to more closely resemble the format of the widely used and accepted AWS D1.1, Structural Welding Code - Steel. Users will benefit from a format that is easier to understand and apply. Both U.S. Customary and SI units are now used. AWS D1.2/D1.2M is unsurpassed in providing the specifications needed to ensure integrity of welded aluminum structures.

AWS D1.2/D1.2M:2003, Structural Welding Code-Aluminum (193 pages; 27 tables; 59 figures; member price $93.00; nonmember price $124.00) contains the requirements for fabricating and erecting welded aluminum structures. The requirements include the design of welded connections, weld procedure and welder performance qualification, inspection procedures and acceptance criteria, stud welding procedures, and the repair and strengthening of existing structures.

GUIDE FOR THE JOINING OF WROUGHT NICKEL-BASED ALLOYS

MIAMI - March 18, 2003 - In 1992, The American Welding Society (AWS) formed the G2 Committee on Joining Metals and Alloys in response to an industry demand for information on welding metals and alloys not covered by other documents and committees. The result of the formation of that committee is the release of AWS G2.1M/G2.1:2002, Guide for the Joining of Wrought Nickel-Based Alloys.

This ANSI-approved standard describes the welding of different wrought nickel-based alloys, including solid-solution and precipitation-hardening alloys. A safety section is also included.

AWS G2.1M/G2.1:2002, Guide for the Joining of Wrought Nickel-Based Alloys is forty-eight (48) pages in length. American Welding Society members pay only $36.00, whereas the price for nonmembers is $48.00.

Guide for the Estimation of Welding Emissions

MIAMI--March 7, 2003--The American Welding Society (AWS) has released a new guide to assist companies in estimating emissions from welding processes for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reporting purposes.

AWS F1.6:2003, Guide for Estimating Welding Emissions for EPA and Ventilation Permit Reporting (16 pages; 1 table; ANSI approved; member price $33.00, nonmember price $44.00), is a concise, easily understandable guide that outlines methods of estimating airborne emissions from the arc welding process. It was developed by the AWS Safety and Health Subcommittee for Fumes and Gases, with assistance from manufacturers and users of welding equipment and consumables, and is ANSI approved.

The American Welding Society is the largest organization in the world dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and application of materials joining. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, AWS serves more than 48,500 members in the United States and around the world.
