SCHOLARSHIP
AWARDED TO DUSTIN SCHMETT
Hobart Institute awarded the 2007
Raymond C. Dunlavy Scholarship to Dustin Schmett of
Huntingburg, Indiana. Dustin is a graduate of Southridge
High School and completed the two-year welding program at
Pike Central High School through the Patoka Valley Career
and Technical Education Cooperative.
In his
recommendation of Dustin for this award, Glenn Weil,
Coordinator of Career and Technical Education Services at
Patoka Valley Career and Technical Education Cooperative,
cites an outstanding work ethic, a sincere interest in
learning about welding processes, a good attendance record
and a cooperative attitude as just a few of the attributes
that Dustin possesses.
“Dustin
worked very hard during his two years in our fine welding
program and earned the respect of our welding teacher, Kevin
Carter, and all other school administrators. His attitude,
interest, and work ethic have always been outstanding,” says
Glenn.
“Dustin is
hard working, honest, and sincere,” comments Brian Uebelhor,
Guidance Counselor at Southridge High School. “I am very
sure that Dustin will be a strong member of this program of
study. I feel he will be successful in his endeavors.”
Dustin’s
farming background has provided him with a strong work
ethic. He is treasurer of the Pork Producers, a Dubois
County 4-H Council member, and was a 4-year FFA member. He
represented the State of Indiana at the national SkillsUSA
welding contest in the post-secondary division where he
placed 12th.
Dustin is
the son of Michael and Linda Schmett. He is employed by M &
L Farms and is currently enrolled in the Combination
Structural and Pipe Welding Program at Hobart
Institute.
“This
opportunity will allow me to be successful in whatever comes
my way in my career through the skills that I will learn,”
says Dustin. “While I know that there will be many
challenges that I face, I am ready to meet them head on!”
