Spring 2006 World of Welding

MICHAEL STULL RECIPIENT OF THE RAYMOND C. DUNLAVY SCHOLARSHIP

“Welding is not just a job; it is a career and an art to me.” Those are the words of Michael P. Stull, the 2005 recipient of the Raymond C. Dunlavy Scholarship to attend the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. After completing a high school welding program at Ivy Tech State College through Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, Indiana in June 2005, Michael joined the team at Warsaw Engineering and Fabricating, Inc.

“It is the intent of Warsaw Engineering to provide career opportunities for our employees,” says Ryan Smith, Operations Manager. “Michael Stull is a fine young man with the characteristics that we look for. He possesses good mechanical skills, learns quickly, is highly motivated, and most of all cares about his work. It is this company’s goal to retain such employees for our immediate needs, but most of all for the future of this company.”

In addition to his classroom experiences, Michael had previous experience in MIG welding at Chore-Time Brock, Inc. His welding instructor, Mr. Chris Morr, recognized Mike’s talents and provided him with guidance toward his employment.

“Mike showed unusual maturity for his age,” states Chris Morr. “I truly believe Mike takes his career choice very seriously and with his talent and the right training, I think he will be a valuable asset to the welding industry.”

“I first found my passion for welding when in FFA at Warsaw Community High School,” says Mike. “I have always enjoyed working with my hands and art classes. Welding is another form of art and I like the results. I enjoy welding and creating things like sculptures and objects I can use around the house.”

Using words such as intelligent, personable, charismatic, responsible, mature, articulate, and organized to describe Michael, Jennifer Shepherd, Assistant Principal at Warsaw Community High School, says, “I have absolutely no doubt that Mike will contribute to society as a whole and specifically his community.”

Mike will pursue the Structural Welding Program at the Hobart Institute and may possibly take pipe welding courses as well. He was a four-year member of FFA and a ten-year member of 4-H. He is the son of Diana and Thomas Stull of Warsaw, Indiana.
