BENEFITS OF COMBINING
SKILL AND TECH TRAINING
From the Bahamas, David Morris first attended
Hobart Institute in 1991 when he completed the
Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program. In
subsequent years, David has been involved in various projects
including pipeline welding and fabrication, oil tank
refurbishment, demolition of steel structures, and structural
welding. Soon after, he became lead and senior welder and later
became field and factory foreman, while training many new
potential welders.
David initially learned to weld from his father who is also a
welder and continued on to a local vocational school where he
learned of Hobart Institute and that it is the best welding
school in the U.S.
“I am very proud of the skills I learned at Hobart Institute.
Not only did it give me an advantage over my welding peers, but
it allowed me a great opportunity to provide for my family,”
says David.
In October 2005, David returned to Hobart Institute and has
completed a one-week
Arc Welding Inspection and Quality Control course, a
Fundamentals of Visual Inspection course, the
Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspection course,
and the
Preparation for the American Welding Society (AWS) Certified
Welding Inspector/Educator (CWI/CWE) Examination.
The course in
Arc Welding Inspection and Quality Control provides a
background to assist in establishing a weld quality control
program by providing information in welding defect analysis and
weldment testing.
Fundamentals of Visual Inspection is a great three-day
course for anyone involved with arc welding inspection, quality
control, engineering or supervision. It concentrates on what to
observe before, during, and after welding and is the single,
most-used method of welding inspection.
The
Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspection course
provides training in theory and hands-on laboratory practice in
the most widely used processes for nondestructive testing.
While not absolutely essential, these courses lay the groundwork
for Preparation
for the American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding
Inspector/Educator (CWI/CWE) Examination. David selected
this course because he wanted to become an AWS Certified Welding
Inspector / Educator.
With this education, David plans to continue to expand his
knowledge and experiences in welding and inspection.
