Spring 2005 World of Welding

HIWT RECOGNIZES EXCELLENCE

In our fall 2004 issue, the Hobart Institute announced a new program to recognize excellence in performance of people who go above and beyond the requirements or levels of desirability to exceed normal expectations.  Those people will continue to be recognized on the pages of The World of Welding The bold print designates new additions to the list.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE

Students may earn this status by attending Hobart Institute in the five-month Structural Welding Program or nine-month program Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program without missing even one day of class.   Two new graduates have been added to this list of distinction.

 Larry Fulk of Dunkirk, Indiana
David Strasfeld of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
Kim Francis of Troy, Ohio.  Kim is employed at Crown Equipment Corporation in New Bremen, Ohio.
J D Philleo of Okanogan, Washington.
J.D. is employed by Nick’s Welding, Inc. and is working on a contract at Lost Cabin Gas Plant / Burlington in Shoshoni, Wyoming.
Melissa Schneyder
of Grants Pass, Oregon.  Melissa is employed at Midmark in Versailles, Ohio.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Hobart Institute provides two levels of academic achievement.  This recognition is based on the grade point average of students in the five or nine-month programs at HIWT.  Candidates for this award must reach a GPA or 3.5 to 3.79 to receive high honors and 3.8 to 4.0 to receive the highest honors.

 HIWT ALUMNI

This category recognizes individuals who completed programs at HIWT and are now successful in the welding industry and have promoted welding and the Hobart Institute through their career path.

 VOCATIONAL WELDING INSTRUCTORS

To receive recognition as an instructor, you must send a minimum of four (4 ) students over a time period of four years to Hobart Institute for further education.  That is just one student per year or may be cumulative (2 students each year for 2 years; 4 students in one year, etc.).  Remind your students that they must list your name or tell us about your influence when they register for classes at the Hobart Institute.

Russ Durham -  Southeastern  Career  Center,  Versailles, Indiana
Jim Lamirande – Southside Center for Applied Technology, Lexington, Kentucky
Richard Fetty  - Meigs County High School, Pomeroy, Ohio

INDUSTRY FRIENDS OF HIWT

Particular individuals in the welding industry, recognizing the level of excellence provided by Hobart Institute and having an awareness of the need for welding training within their own facilities, have consistently recommended to management that employees be sent to HIWT for specialized training.

Harry Lamoreaux - Triumph Thermal Systems

Congratulations to these individuals!  We are certain there are many more of you who qualify within these categories.  You?  Your counterpart?
