HOBART
INSTITUTE COURSES
ATTRACT
COUSINS FROM PERU
The Welding
for the Nonwelder and Liquid
Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspection courses in
the technical training department at the Hobart Institute
attracted the attention of José and Rodrigo Carranza of
Trujillo, Peru. The two men work at Factoria Industrial SAC, a family-owned
company, where José is the Assistant CEO and Rodrigo is the
Purchasing Manager. In
seeking the inspection information, they spoke to an
acquaintance in Lima, Peru.
He had attended HIWT previously and suggested that they
could obtain the information they needed at Hobart.
José and Rodrigo then found details for classes on the
HIWT web site.
Headquartered in Trujillo,
Factoria Industrial SAC is a 25-year-old maintenance company
that conducts welding, resurfacing, and machine repair for
mining, freight shipping, food equipment and packaging, and
other manufacturing companies.
They have 70 employees and operate two locations – one
along the Peruvian coast and one in the mountains.
Their multi-phased service offers both on-site and
in-house equipment repair.
The training they have received at Hobart Institute will
be valuable to their work in the nondestructive evaluation of
welded repairs.
“One of our major customers is
Compańia Minera Yanacocho SRL, the largest gold mining
operation in South America,” says José.
Compańia Minera Yanacocho SRL is
operated by Newmont Mining Corporation of Nevada, where Newmont
holds a 51% interest. Newmont
also has holdings in Australia, Indonesia, and other locations.
The Liquid
Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspection course is a
one-week session that allows students to spend one-third of the
time in the laboratory for demonstration and practical projects.
It prepares students for Level II SNT-TC-1A and
MIL-STD-410 in Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Testing.
It will be offered again beginning April 19; August 2;
and October 4, 2004. Call
1-800-332-9448 or visit http://www.welding.org
for details and registration.
