WELDING INSTRUCTORS UPDATE

by Elmer Swank

As summer approaches, it is time for welding instructors who spend the majority of the year teaching to take a break from the routine!  You have an opportunity to sit back, relax and let someone else do the teaching for a change!  You are invited to register for a one-week refresher beginning July 7, 2003.  Hobart Institute is offering a Welding Instructor Course just for you, aimed at increasing your knowledge of welding and welding-related subjects.  You will enjoy a variety of topics providing a diversified schedule of classroom theory and “hands-on” practice in the major arc welding processes.  Our experienced instructors will also bring you up-to-date on some of the new welding equipment available on today’s market.

If you need to take the American Welding Society’s Certified Welding Inspector/Educator examination, we are offering preparation courses during the summer for your convenience, with the AWS exam given on the final day (Friday) of the two-week class.  The first summer class will be held beginning June 2, 2003 with the CWI/CWE exam administered on June 13, 2003.  The second session begins July 21, 2003 with the exam given on August 1, 2003.  The AWS CWI/CWE information packet may be downloaded and printed from the HIWT web site at http://www.welding.org.  Or call 1-800-332-9448, ext. 5215 to have one mailed to you.

Perhaps you’d like to bring your family with you and incorporate some vacation time as well as the time you spend each day in the classroom.  This year Ohio is celebrating a Bicentennial.  Area family activities and daily jaunts may include visits to such places as Brukner Nature Center just outside Troy, the Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum in Fairborn, Johnston Farm Historical Area in Piqua, Kings Island Amusement Park at Kings Mills, and the Sculptures on the Square traveling exhibit in downtown Troy. Bike paths, ice-skating at Hobart Arena, city parks and golf course, along with a variety of other activities are available in this area.
