Fall 2004 World of Welding

Soldadores Sin Fronteras

HOBART INSTITUTE HONORED BY “WELDERS WITHOUT BORDERS”

During his recent visit to the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology, Professor Samuel Colton, Sr., Professor of Welding from Arizona Western College, presented the Hobart Institute and Marty Baker with plaques of appreciation in support of his program, Soldadores Sin Fronteras /Welders Without Borders

“You have been chosen to receive this recognition for your service to the welders of the world and your devotion to the welding industry.  Many have come before you, but few have rendered the service you have given.  In the world of welding, your contributions know no borders.”

In 2000, Professor Samuel Colton founded Soldadores Sin Fronteras /Welders Without Borders in response to create greater opportunity for members of the welding community to share their experiences with students of welding.  This has resulted in an ever-growing network of welding educators, students and industry leaders working together to serve others.

Since that time, Colton has spent his summers working with welding programs in the United States,  Mexico and Peru.  Most recently, he has been in contact with Derek Isu and officials in Nigeria to extend the program to that West African nation.

“Each of us can help build our world into a safer and better place by using our knowledge and talents to lift young people and each other up; and to use our skill in welding to serve our communities and make them better places for all,” says Professor Colton.

Soldadores Sin Fronteras /Welders Without Borders welcomes support from welding professionals from around the world who are willing to travel anywhere and share their knowledge and experience to advance the future of our industry and build a better understanding between people through the advancement of metals technology.

“Welding is a knowledge that improves lives, builds nations, and gives hope to millions,” says Sam Colton.

Professor Colton was in Troy to attend the annual, week-long Welding Instructor Course at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology.
