LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
A lot has happened since I completed training at Hobart
Institute. Last you
heard from me, I was in the process of changing careers... from
welding underwater to mechanical engineering studies at Purdue
University. I have
successfully completed engineering and business degrees and am
now planning on attending law school to focus on Intellectual
Property and Patent Law. Where
does Hobart fit into this?
Hobart has been the foundation in many of my work
activities-welding topside, underwater, designing products,
evaluating the structural integrity of products my company is
investigating for purchase; and as I move into patents, maybe it
will be to protect the intellectual property of a new welding
process. My hats off to the Hobart staff!
Welding can take you anywhere!

I would like to commend Mr. Harper. It takes a special person to subject themselves to what could
be a life-threatening situation without a moment's notice day
after day. Most
people here have no skills and little or no education.
That's one of the reasons they're in prison.
It's hoorah! Walter, for doing more than most in helping
reduce the recidivism rate.
Most people do not know, but this helps our cities,
states, country, and all of mankind.
Thank you. Respectfully
yours,
~

I was
reading The World of Welding
article, "HIWT is Making The Future Work For You Now."
I am a member of Pipefitter's Local 636 in Detroit,
Michigan. I used
HIWT as a tool to get in the pipefitters apprenticeship program.
Once in, the program and my ability to weld allowed me to
receive money over the apprenticeship scale.
I served the full apprenticeship.
At the time, it was one year of probation and four years
of schooling, the first two years we had a half day of
theory/and the second half was welding then the last two years
was all welding. The
way our school is set up that once every two weeks instead of
going to work we went to apprenticeship school for the day, but
we also got training on the job. I continued to hone my skills
that HIWT had taught me! Being part of the UA has allowed me to weld on 9% chrome pipe
in oil refineries to aluminum pipe in oxygen plants!! KEEP UP
THE GOOD WORK !

I'm a student of Mr. Rice at Dale Jackson Career Center
and I enjoy reading all of the articles in your magazine. I love learning
as much as I can about the wide world of welding.

If it
were not for Hobart, I would not have the great job I have
today. I went through the program in 1979. I never thought in a million years how it was going to pay
off! Sincerely
yours,

I'm
86 years old and still welding, although my eyesight is not too
good. I used the G.I. Bill to enroll in Hobart welding school and
have been welding and machining ever since.
I've built numerous 1/2 scale models of antique tractors
and related machines and am now working on a 1/2 scale IHC auto
wagon. I sure enjoy
The World of Welding. Thanks!

I was
visiting a friend when I picked up your magazine off of her
coffee table. After
flipping through it I thought, "Wow, my husband would love
to get this!" He is an 8-year welder.
So I tore out the response card.
I can't wait to start receiving The World of Welding!

I
read your magazine cover-to-cover when it comes.
I hope to come to the HIWT for a two-week TIG course if I
can get the time off between jobs.
