PURSUE
YOUR GOALS WHILE GI BILL PAYS
Recently
discharged veterans who qualify are encouraged to make use of
the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)
for their training at the Hobart Institute of Welding
Technology. This
benefit may be used for Hobart Institute certificate programs
including the Structural
Welding Program, the Combination
Structural and Pipe Welding Program, and the Preparation
for the AWS CWI/CWE (Certified Welding Inspector/Educator)
Examination. The
MGIB provides up to 36 months of educational benefits, which
could allow the student to complete a program at Hobart
Institute and continue into a college program while continuing
to use the benefits.
Matthew
Robinson is one student who is benefiting from this support.
Matt is a graduate of Wayne High School and the Miami
Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) where he was
enrolled in the welding technology program under the instruction
of Rick Bickel and Larry Youngblood.
While in high school, Matt worked at a local company
doing welding and also assisted the instructors with various
tasks. Following graduation in 1998, Matt chose to enter the U.S.
Marine Corps, following in the footsteps of his father and
older brother. While
in the service, Matt completed two years of college.
In September 2002, after four years in the military, Matt
received an honorable discharge.
Armed
with a desire to utilize the military benefits to further his
education, Matt recalled a tour he had taken of the Hobart
Institute while attending MVCTC.
Since the Institute was approved by the Ohio
State Approving Agency for Veterans Training, Matt decided
to pursue welding.
“Had
Hobart not been approved for these benefits,” says Matt, “I
probably would have selected another school to continue my
education.”
Matt
chose the nine month Combination Structural and Pipe Welding
Program.
“I
am definitely happy with the training I have received at
Hobart,” Matt comments. “It
has increased my knowledge and my confidence.
I know that I will now feel comfortable going into any
job situation.”
While
he was attending the Hobart Institute, Matt performed auto
bodywork in his friend’s shop.
Upon completion of the program, he chose to seek
employment in welding while considering other options to
possibly include pursuit of a degree in engineering.
Matt enjoys riding his Suzuki GSX-R750® and fishing in
his spare time.
