COMPANY
REAPS BENEFITS FROM CWI
Todd Horseman and the company that
employs him is benefiting daily from a course he took and an
exam he passed to become a Certified Welding Inspector.
In June 2002, Todd enrolled in the Preparation
for the AWS (CWI/CWE) Welding Inspector/Educator Examination
course at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology and passed
the six-hour American Welding
Society examination.
“The training and certification has
helped me a great deal because I am the only one in our plant
that is a CWI and I am called upon almost daily to examine
various welds,” says Todd.
Todd is the second shift Skill Trades
Leader supervising seventeen employees at the Michigan
automotive plant that employs three to four hundred people.
He is responsible for welding training of technicians,
and supervision of toolmakers, robotic welders, and CMM.
Todd has been with the company over five years and
received his training through the four-year Weld Fixture Repair
apprenticeship program with the United
Auto Workers at Washtenaw
Community College, along with specific equipment
manufacturer training in robotics.
“My company was considering phasing
out the CWI requirement, but I felt it would be good for me to
have it for my job,” Todd comments.
This automotive plant is responsible
for manufacturing automobile frames.
Todd lives in Michigan with his wife
and three children, ages six through eighteen.
He enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time.
