GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING (GTAW)
Overview
This new, state-of-the-art, 33-module GTAW curriculum
(available on 4 DVDs) is based on the AWS S.E.N.S.E. requirements
as specified in QC10 and EG2.0. Modular design gives you the flexibility to
customize implementation to the needs of your unique setting. There are 23 skill
modules, 9 modules cover essential theory, and 1 module provides a course
overview. Skill modules feature arc shots with compelling, close-up views of the
puddle from the welder's perspective. They include:
-
9 modules on 16- and 11-gauge (1.6 and 3.2mm) carbon steel in all positions, including one module (topic 13), devoted to performing and
AWS standard bend test.
- 6 modules on 16-gauge (1.6mm) stainless steel (flat, vertical &
horizontal positions), including one module (topic 23) devoted to
visual inspection of stainless steel.
- 8 modules on 0.125" (3.2mm) aluminum (flat, vertical &
horizontal positions), including one module (topic 33) devoted to
the visual inspection of aluminum.
Theory modules make extensive use of computer
graphics and 3D animation to illustrate key concepts. They include:
an Introduction to GTAW; a comprehensive module on safety; Equipment
Setup, Adjustment and Shut Down; The Essentials of GTAW; The
Metallurgy & Weldability of Carbon Steel; Introduction to GTAW
Using Pulsed Power; The Welding Characteristics of Stainless Steel;
The Welding Characteristics of
Aluminum; and The Effect of Process Variables on the Welding
Arc.
Instructor
Guide
The Instructor Guide includes everything you need to
implement the GTAW curriculum. It provides all the information
necessary to complete your lesson plans in an easy-to-follow
5-column format with performance objectives, suggested practice
times, required materials and machines settings, evaluation
methodologies, and a complete script of what to do and say,
featuring suggestions for implementing each topic and reinforcing
key points.
Student
Workbook
The student workbook (EW369 GTAW) is divided into the
same topics as the DVD. The workbook provides an easy-to-follow
"recipe" format for recreating the welds demonstrated on DVD.
The pictures in the workbook are taken directly from the DVD
to facilitate skill transfer. The workbook also provides a summary
of the essential theory covered in the course.
Tests
& Answer Keys
There are 4 written tests included with the GTAW
curriculum, to measure mastery of key concepts. Quiz 1 covers
general GTAW theory. Quizzes 2, 3 and 4 focus on carbon steel,
stainless steel and aluminum respectively. Answer keys are provided
in the Instructor Guide.
